GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Georgetown College volleyball team (2-14, 0-5 MSC) lost to the Freed-Hardeman University (13-10, 1-4 MSC) in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Friday night.
The Lions defeated the Tigers in three sets, winning 25-20, 25-23, 25-22.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers and Lions traded the first seven points before the visitors stretched a five-point lead out to 13-8. Georgetown fought back to tie things at 16-16 and even pushed ahead behind a service ace. A 5-0 run by FHU, though, sunk the Tigers into an insurmountable hole as the Lions won the opener, 25-20.
Once again, the teams traded the early points with neither side gaining more than a three-point lead until the Tigers got a kill and induced an attack error out of an FHU timeout at the 13-10 mark. The Lions clawed back to tie things at 13-13 and lead at 20-19. Georgetown won four of the next five points and was in the driver's seat to take the set, but did not score again. The Lions won the final four points of the set and won, 25-23.
The Tigers won the first point of the third set but played from behind for most of the set. A 3-0 spurt pulled the hosts within one at 6-5, and it took a couple of pivotal runs to make things interesting. Down 13-9, a 5-0 run gave the Tigers a one-point lead before a 3-0 run gave Georgetown the 18-15 advantage. Georgetown built out a 21-16 lead, but a 6-0 stretch gave the Lions back the late lead.
