Tigers Handle Eagles in Four

PIPPA PASSES, Ky. – The Georgetown College volleyball team (2-7) picked up a win over Alice Lloyd College (9-4) in the Perry Campus Center on Tuesday evening.

The Tigers defeated the Eagles in four sets, winning 25-12, 25-18, 15-25, 25-12.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Eagles and Tigers traded some early blows in the opener, but an early set spurt from Georgetown saw the visitors out to a quick 9-4 lead. The five-point advantage doubled at 21-11 as the sides traded off points from there. The Tigers took the opener, 25-15. 

The tightly contested second set saw the Tigers trail for the first time on the night at the 2-1 mark. Playing to an 8-8 tie, Georgetown separated from there. A 6-0 run buried the Eagles in a 14-8 hole, which they could not recover from. The Tigers won the second 25-18.

The Tigers dropped the opening two points of the third set before going on a 4-0 run to take control. Leading 5-3, Georgetown saw its lead disappear. The Eagles used a 5-0 run to regain the upper hand and did not look back. The Tigers clawed back within a point at 13-12, but the next six points favored the hosts, who went on to grab the set, 25-15.

The Tigers used an early 5-2 lead to their advantage. With the Eagles on the last leg, they took an 8-6 lead before Georgetown did its final damage. A 5-0 spurt for the Tigers gave them an 11-8 advantage before things were promptly tied at 11-11. Things changed from there, though. Georgetown earned the next five points an,d after surrendering an attack error to make it 16-12, did not drop a point the rest of the way. A flurry of attack errors down the stretch buried Alice Lloyd, 25-12.

THE TEAM
Georgetown hit .181 as a squad, with ALC earning a .008 mark. The Tigers had 39 kills and 37 assists. Georgetown produced four blocks and five service aces with 52 digs.

THE PLAYERS

Giara Ferrari produced a team-high 10 kills with a service ace, a dig while hitting .533%.

Reagan Kupper added six kills to go with seven digs and a service ace.

Faith Miller just missed a double-double with 15 assists and nine digs.

The Tigers have a day off before taking the court against (RV) Lindsey Wilson University (12-3, 0-0 MSC) on Thursday, September 18 at 7:00 p.m. to open Mid-South Conference play.
