Georgetown returned home on Saturday following a tough loss at Campbellsville earlier in the week. Weather conditions were perfect at Toyota Stadium, and while the Tigers came out strong early, #19 Lindsey Wilson proved too strong on this day as the Blue Raiders defeated the Tigers, 3-1.
The Tigers (4-6-1, 1-4-0) showed strong defensive form early on, frustrating the Blue Raiders (4-3-3, 4-0-1) into multiple offsides and fouls. While the Tigers opportunities early on were limited on offense, the match stayed level until the 27th minute when Lindsey Wilson was able to pack the box and get a ball by Tigers keeper, Madison Lonneman for a 1-0 lead. In the 38th minute, it appeared the Blue Raiders added to the lead, but a late offside call wiped the goal off the board. The call upset the Blue Raiders bench to the point of the bench earning a yellow card for arguing with the referees.
Despite the goal being disallowed, Lindsey Wilson stayed with its form and dominated possession late in the half, ultimately finding the net in the 42nd minute for a 2-0 lead at the half. In the 2nd half, Georgetown began mixing and moving with its forward line and started showing progress with the ball. The work would pay off in the 51st minute as the Tigers were able to break through, thanks to the aggression and a mix up in the Blue Raiders goal box. Libby Miller put herself in position and capitalized with her 8th goal of the year, cutting the LWC lead to 2-1.
The Tigers had other chances in the match, including a Demi Siemelink shot that hit the post and a header that deflected off the cross bar, but nothing else could find the net. Lindsey would add 1 more goal in the 65th minute to end the scoring on the day.
Georgetown heads to Bethel in the next match of Mid-South Conference play this coming Wednesday.
