Lacrosse breaks 5 school records, ties 2 others in crushing of Montreat
Georgetown Lacrosse rewrote the history books on Thursday in the opening round of the AAC Tournament against Montreat. The Tigers broke 5 program records and tied 2 others in a historic 30-2 win to advance to Friday's semifinal.
Madison Diaz exploded out of the gate with 4 1st quarter goals, including the final 3 of the period, en route to a career-high 8 goals and a record-tying 14 draw controls. Katerina Gilbert assisted on 2 goals in the first to cement her new school record of 42 in a season. Aubree Lair scored twice in the 1st and in the 2nd on her way to a new career-best 9 goals.
Georgetown led 9-0 after 1 and 18-1 at halftime. The rout kept going in the 3rd as Lair scored 3 more times. Melanie Wieland racked up a goal and 3 assists on 7 total goals in the quarter. Seshadri Pratama and Hannah Voss also found the net in the 3rd as the Tigers led 25-2 going to the 4th. Maggie Byrd and Avery McAlister were the last of the Tigers to find the scoring column, each doing so in the final 7 minutes of the game.
Georgetown's defense was also suffocating as the Tigers allowed just 5 shots on goal. Madison Haney stopped 3, giving her 499 career saves.

The Tigers also tied a team record with 16 assists. Madison Diaz tied her own school record with 14 draw controls.
Georgetown now gets set for a semifinal matchup against host Cumberlands. The game is set for a 2:00pm opening draw on Friday in Williamsburg.
