Lacrosse suffers 1st AAC loss of season

Georgetown faced its toughest AAC test of the season as Reinhardt, the defending conference and national champion, came to Toyota Stadium on Saturday. The Tigers proved they were up to the test and stuck with the Eagles most of the day, but ultimately fell short in a 17-12 defeat.

Reinhardt came out quickly with the first 2 goals of the game in less than 5 minutes of the 1st quarter. Madison Diaz got Georgetown on the board with 8:49 to go. She scored again just 64 seconds later to keep Georgetown within 1 at 3-2. Reinhardt then tallied 3 unanswered for a 6-2 lead as the clock went under 5 minutes to play. Georgetown found late life as Hannah Voss and Aubree Lair each found the net to cut Reinhardt's lead to 6-4 after 1.

Georgetown again got within 1 with 8:40 to go in the 2nd thanks to an unassisted goal from Katerina Gilbert. It took Reinhardt nearly 7 minutes to break through Georgetown's defense, but the Eagles got there and scored 3 times in just over 2 minutes for a 9-5 lead with 6 minutes to play until halftime. Melanie Wieland got 1 back for Georgetown before the break as the Tigers trailed, 9-6.

The 3rd and early 4th quarter proved the difference in the game. Aubree Lair scored with 9:35 to go in the 3rd to get the Tigers within 2. Georgetown would not score again until there were 10 minutes left in the 4th. In between, Reinhardt scored 6 straight goals to take a 15-7 lead. Madison Diaz and Aubree Lair each scored to get the Tigers within 6 at 15-9. Reinhardt got those 2 back to take a 17-9 lead with just under 4 minutes to play. Georgetown did score 3 straight to end the game but it was too late as Reinhardt secured the win.

Madison Diaz led the offense with 4 goals and 2 assists. Aubree Lair tallied a hat trick. Katerina Gilbert and Melanie Wieland scored twice. Madison Haney stopped 15 saves in goal to keep the Tigers in the hunt.

Georgetown is next in action on Wednesday, April 9th, when the team travels to Cumberlands. The opening draw is set for 6:00pm.
