Bats go bonkers in Game 2 win over UNOH

Something about the 2nd game of a doubleheader has brought out the Tiger bats early in 2023. The Tigers scored 11 runs in game 2 of the opening doubleheader against Union on Tuesday. They went 1 better on this day, putting 12 on the board in a 12-7 win over UNOH to split day 1 of the 4-game series.

Offense was plentiful for both early on. The Racers put 3 on the board in the top of the 1st, and 2 more in the top of the 2nd to take an early 5-0 lead. Maria Fratangelo grabbed momentum back with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 2nd, scoring Cassie Rannells and getting GC on the board. With 2 on, Kaylyn Barnett delivered a single that scored Peyton Beger, making the score 5-3, UNOH, after 2.

Fratangelo delivered again in the bottom of the 3rd with an RBI single, getting GC within 6-4. Peyton Beger followed with a monstrous 3-run homer, putting Georgetown ahead 7-6 at the end of the 3rd.

The 4th inning proved quiet for both on the board. UNOH tied the game in the top of the 5th, but Cassie Rannells put the Tigers back ahead in the bottom of the inning with a single that scored Mallory Myers. Maria Fratangelo wasn't finished with the RBI party. She brought Rannells home on a single up the middle, making it a 9-7 game. She would score on a RBI groundout from Peyton Beger, making it a 10-7 GC lead after 5.

The Tigers would add 2 more in the bottom of the 6th for good measure. Rannells would repeat herself by singling home Myers. Sarah Claxon capped the scoring by driving home Rannells on a RBI single.

Freshman Kelsie Hill would pitch the distance for the Tigers, striking out 3 batters along the way.

The teams will play another doubleheader on Sunday at the Tiger softball complex, starting at 1:00pm. The doubleheader will be streamed on the Georgetown Tigers YouTube channel.
