(RV) Tigers Fend Off (RV) Mighty Oaks in Four
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The (RV) Georgetown College men's volleyball team (12-7, 7-2 RSC) got back in the win column against (RV) Oakland City (14-7, 5-4 RSC) on Tuesday night in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
Georgetown defeated Oakland City University in four sets: 25-21, 21-25, 25-16, 29-27.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Georgetown started off hot, winning seven of the first 10 points before the Mighty Oaks found a little traction. OCU tied things at 13-13 and forced a Georgetown timeout. Out of the break, the lead shifted back and forth before the Tigers were facing a 19-16 deficit and called a timeout once again. The Tigers rattled off seven of the next eight points and controlled a 23-20 lead. From there, errors by OCU finished off the set, 25-21 in favor of Georgetown.
The second set was the lone set the Tigers lost despite starting things in a similar fashion, leading 7-2. Trailing 16-14, the Mighty Oaks used a 3-1 run to push ahead 20-14. Oakland City finished off the second, 25-21, behind a kill.
Georgetown once again started off strong to begin the third, leading 10-3. A pair of timeouts were called early in this one by both sides before Georgetown all but put things out of reach with a quick 3-0 run highlighted by some OCU attack errors. The Tigers stormed off to end the set with a 25-16 victory behind a Michal Bak kill.
The fourth set saw more competition from the Mighty Oaks in the early stages. Things were tied at 18-18 when OCU called a timeout and secured two straight points. Down 24-21, the Tigers produced an incredible comeback, forcing an attack error which tied the set at 24-24. Georgetown took the momentum and eventually the set behind a Kristjan Unt kill, 29-27.
THE TEAM
Georgetown hit .185 as a squad, with OCU earning a .165 mark. The Tigers had 49 kills and 47 assists. Georgetown collected 10 service aces and 52 digs.
THE PLAYERS
* Kristjan Unt produced a team-high 14 kills with six digs and three service aces.
* Michal Bak had 10 kills with 13 digs and two block assists.
* Adam Szewinski also added 10 kills to go with three digs and three service aces.
UP NEXT
The Tigers hit the road in RSC play over the weekend, taking on Brescia University (8-12, 3-7 RSC) on Friday, March 27.
