No. 15 Tigers Sweep (RV) Mighty Oaks to Open RSC Play

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – The No. 15 Georgetown College men's volleyball team (3-5, 1-0 RSC) took down (RV) Oakland City (7-3, 0-1 RSC) to open River States Conference play in the Johnson Center on Saturday night.

The Tigers defeated the Mighty Oaks in three sets, 25-16, 25-19, 25-20.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Georgetown started out on fire, winning eight of the first nine points. The Tigers held off the momentum the Mighty Oaks tried to string together as by the later stages of the opening, OCU had burned both timeouts, down 21-13. Robin Puss and Kristjan Unt combined to close things out with kills as the Tigers took the opener, 25-16.

Despite leading the nearly entire set, the second set was much more competitive. A Georgetown service error made it an 11-10 game, and the Tigers fell into a 12-11 deficit before digging out behind a 3-0 run. From there, Georgetown led the rest of the set, winning 25-19 off an Unt kill.

Neither team could separate much in the early stages of the third. After splitting the opening 14 points, the Tigers strung together a few points to lead 11-8. Georgetown rattled off two straight kills to go up 15-10 and force a Mighty Oaks timeout. The damage was done as the Tigers went on to claim the third, 25-20, finishing off the sweep.

Georgetown hit .360 as a squad, with OCU earning a .195 mark. The Tigers had 41 kills and 40 assists. Georgetown collected four service aces and 34 digs.
