Tigers make quick work of Eagles
Men's Volleyball needed just 1 hour, 3 minutes to take care of Midway in straight sets on Saturday afternoon and improve to 16-4 overall and 10-1 in the River States Conference.
The Tigers raced out to a 12-4 lead in the first set before Midway took a timeout to try stopping the momentum. The Eagles clawed back within 5 at 13-8 before Georgetown took over the rest of the way. Georgetown hit .444 with 16 kills in the set while holding Midway to just 3 kills and a -.071 hitting number. The Tigers rolled off the last 5 points for a 25-13 win.
The run continued into set 2 as Georgetown scored the first 6 points of the set. Midway closed the gap to 3 at 7-4 before the Tigers scored 5 unanswered for another 12-4 lead. The Eagles never got closer than 6 the rest of the way as Georgetown cruised to a 25-11 set 2 win.
Midway took its only lead of the match with the first point of the 3rd set. Georgetown countered by scoring 12 of the next 15 for a 3rd straight lead of 12-4. Midway used a timeout after a Michal Bak kill from Brandon Gitschier gave the Tigers a 15-5 lead. The Eagles got the first point out of the timeout but not much more as Georgetown rolled on and capped a 25-10 win with an ace from Michael Horton for the closer.
Finn Heinemann tallied 27 assists in 2 sets played to go with 7 digs. Santino Zucchiati led the offense with 12 kills. Michal Bak had 10. Michael Horton added 3 kills with his closing ace. The defense limited Midway to just 10 total kills in the match.
Georgetown looks to keep the RSC roll going on Tuesday with a trip to Oakland City. The Tigers won the 1st matchup in straight sets and will look for the sweep starting at 6:00pm.
