Volleyball sweeps Campbellsville

Georgetown took down rival Campbellsville in straight sets on Tuesday night to improve to 4-0 in league play. The Tigers defending played the biggest factor in the rout as Campbellsville did not carry a single set with more kills than errors.

Georgetown's offense was not up to its usual high standard in the first set as they hit just .167, but they slowly pulled away because of the stout defending that limited Campbellsville to just 7 kills, en route to a 25-18 Georgetown win.

The second set was a virtual replica of the first for Campbellsville. 7 kills with 8 errors on fewer than 25 attempts. Georgetown got its own offense on track as they hit .346 with an impressive 14 kills. With the set tied at 2, Georgetown scored 9 of the next 10 to break things wide open. The lead would reach as high as 12 in the set at 21-9 before the orange & black closed it out, 25-16, to go up 2-0 in the match.

Set 3 would prove to be the toughest for Georgetown on the night. It was early in the set that Campbellsville had its only time ahead at any point in the match. CU took a 3-1 lead before Georgetown scored 4 of 5, going up 5-4 in the 3rd and taking the lead for good. The lead would slowly grow as the set went on as Campbellsville's ineffective offense showed itself once more. Georgetown took the 3rd set, 25-19, closing out the match in less than 90 minutes.

Finn Heinemann got the start at setter in this one and delivered with 30 assists, 3 aces, and 2 kills. Miguel Vega led the attack with 10 kills and .429 hitting percentage. Krzysztof Kowalski added 9 kills and 4 digs. CJ Bride paced the backline with 10 digs. Tyler Chavez carried a strong all-around night with 5 kills, 8 digs, 2 blocks and 2 assists.

The Tigers stay in Mid-South Conference play on Thursday night against Thomas More. First serve at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym is set for 6:00pm.
