Tigers season ends in MSC Quarterfinals
Georgetown was riding high off a strong opening round tournament win over Freed-Hardeman on Thursday in Bowling Green. Their reward in the quarterfinals was top-seed and regular season champion, Campbellsville. Unfortunately for Georgetown, this Tiger fight went the other way as Campbellsville eliminated Georgetown in straight sets to end the Tigers 2022 season.
Georgetown (7-20) came out quickly in set 1 and had a 2-0 lead before Campbellsville (20-5) rolled off 6 straight points to assume command. Georgetown would not get within 3 points of Campbellsville again in the set. CU built up a 14-5 lead before Georgetown rattled off 4 in a row to cut the deficit back to 5. From there, Campbellsville would go on a series of mini runs and eventually win the 1st set, 25-18.
In set 2, Georgetown again got off to a solid start, leading 2-1 and 4-3 early. With the set tied at 6, Campbellsville went on a 5-0 run in large part due to 4 straight Georgetown errors and put the Tigers in comeback mode once more. Georgetown fought hard but 11 errors in the set were just too many to overcome, allowing Campbellsville to easily take set 2, 25-14.
Set 3 proved to be more of the same early on. Georgetown raced out to a 4-0 lead, putting Campbellsville on its heels. The bottom then fell out for Georgetown. Campbellsville scored the next 12 points and 19 of the next 21, all but ending Georgetown's hopes of a comeback. As much as the Tigers fought to get back in, the mountain proved too tall to climb as Campbellsville took advantage of 10 GC errors in the set to win it, 25-12, thus sweeping the proceedings and ending Georgetown's season in the Mid-South Conference Quarterfinals.
While the outcome was not what the orange and black were hoping for, the team fought hard all the way to the end and showed true Tiger Pride.
