Tigers swept at home by Bethel
Georgetown came home on Friday night for only the 2nd time on the season. The Tigers were looking for a repeat performance of the home opener: a 4-set win over Cumberlands. It wasn't to be on this night as Georgetown was beaten by Bethel in straight sets, 25-17, 25-17, 25-20.
Errors would prove costly for Georgetown (3-15, 2-5) from the start. 10 Tiger errors in the 1st set put momentum behind Bethel (14-5, 3-4). Georgetown ended the set with a negative hit percentage, and when combined with only 5 Bethel errors, the Wildcats built an early lead and didn't relinquish it in a 25-17 set 1 win.
Set 2 proved to be a carbon copy of the 1st. Georgetown again had 10 errors in the set against only 8 kills, thus not allowing the Tigers to build any scoring runs, despite Bethel only hitting .077 in the set. Multiple point serve runs were a rarity for Georgetown all night long, thus allowing Bethel to keep its run going, despite the Wildcats not being in top form in the set. Bethel took the 2nd set, 25-17 to go up 2-0 in the match.
The set break proved a good one for Georgetown as the Tigers hit .292 in the 3rd set, with 13 kills against just 6 errors. The problem for Georgetown was on the other side of the net. Bethel turned in an incredible 3rd set, hitting .571 with 15 kills and only 3 errors. Georgetown fell behind early and again couldn't sustain a service run to draw level or pull ahead, leading Bethel to close out the match, 25-20 in the 3rd.
Georgetown stays home for a match against Freed-Hardeman on Saturday, October 8th, at 3:00pm.
