Tigers swept at Thomas More
Georgetown volleyball fell in straight sets at Thomas More on Tuesday night in search of a 3-1 start to Mid-South Conference play.
The Tigers (3-11, 2-2) got off to a slow start against an efficient Thomas More (9-6, 3-0) offense and could not recover. Georgetown committed 7 errors in the 1st set alone, equaling that of the Saints for the duration of the match. Thomas More took the 1st set, 25-18, for the early lead. The 2nd set bounce back has been kind to Georgetown for most of the season, but it was not to be on this night. The Saints offense was too efficient to overcome. In the 2nd, the Saints had 16 kills against 4 errors with hit percentage of .375 to take set 2, 25-16.
Set 3 proved even tougher for the Tigers to mount a charge as Thomas More turned in one of its better sets of the 2022 season. The Saints had 11 kills with just 1 error and a hit percentage of .500. On the other side, Georgetown had one of its worst sets of the season with 7 kills, 9 errors and a negative hitting percentage. All of the numbers resulted in a 25-14 win for the Saints and a sweep of the match.
Thomas More finished the night with 35 kills and only 7 errors, while Georgetown turned in a 25-20 kill-error ratio in Crestview Hills, KY. The Tigers also had 10 service errors, contributing to the tough night. Ivona Zarin led the offense with 14 assists.
Georgetown is next in action on Thursday, September 29th at Tennessee Southern.
