Seniors celebrate with straight-set win
The bittersweet must come every year, but sending the seniors out in style is also becoming a tradition. Georgetown College volleyball tallied a straight set win over Cumberland University on the final regular season match in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym for Allyson Wilbourn, Caraline Maher, Stephanie Gurren, Mariah Tesarz and Ashley Booth. The No. 16 Tigers (24-10, 11-2) won 25-12, 25-19, 25-15 over the Bulldogs (12-17, 1-11).
All-American's Wilbourn and Maher eerily hit the same percentage .538, while tallying eight and nine kills respectively. Gurren had nine of the 30 assists and added three aces. Tesarz had 10 digs and one assist.
Courtney Grafton helped to put the third set away by serving nine points in a stretch where GC took control.
"Tonight is always tough to see another class finish four years with us," said GC coach Nick Griffin. "This group has been so amazing and helped us through so many wins. We will really miss this class."
Georgetown returns to action with one final regular season game 7 pm Wednesday at Shawnee State.
