#7 Tennessee-Southern flexed its muscle early against Georgetown, scoring twice in the 1st 5 minutes, proving too much for the Tigers to overcome in a 4-0 Firehawks win.
Georgetown (5-7-2, 2-5-1) was on its heels from the start as UT-Southern (10-3-1, 6-1-1) showed why it's a national championship contender. The Firehawks got goals in the 4th and 5th minutes, just 35 seconds apart to set the tone early with a 2-0 lead. The Tigers defense began to shore up from there in the 1st half limiting the Firehawks to just 3 shots on goal over the final 40 minutes of the half. Georgetown's offense struggled to find quality offensive opportunities despite solid possession and advancement in the midfield throughout those last 40 minutes. The Tigers did not register a shot on goal in the half.
In the 2nd half, UT-Southern again came out aggressive but early on Georgetown had the answers on the backline and in net, as Daysia Thompson held tough. The Firehawks persistence though would pay off in the 54th minute as Yuki Watari would score the 2nd of her 3 goals on the afternoon, giving her team a 3-0 lead. She would ultimately complete the hat trick in the 81st minute to cap the scoring on the night.
Georgetown was only able to muster 3 shots on goal for the match against a strong, fast Firehawks back line. The Tigers are next in action on Sunday against Cumberland University. It is also Sensory Inclusion Day at Toyota Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm.
