Georgetown traveled to Campbellsville on Wednesday night looking for an important 3 points in the Mid-South Conference standings. Through 45 minutes, Georgetown was in prime position to do so. Campbellsville had other ideas in the 2nd half and showed it with a 6-goal outburst in the 2nd to knock off Georgetown, 7-0.
Georgetown (4-5-1, 1-3-0) held tough after a 9th minute goal from Campbellsville (4-4-0, 2-2-0) and kept the scoring margin at 1-0 after 45 minutes. The Tiger defending also limited Campbellsville to just 5 total shots in the 1st half. While Georgetown struggled to find its own offensive form, it was still anyone's match heading into the 2nd half as Daysia Thompson was solid in net in the 1st half.
Campbellsville made its adjustments at the half and started finding seams in the Georgetown defense. CU capitalized with a goal in the 48th minute to make the margin 2-0. Georgetown again regrouped and maintained solid defensive form until the 70th minute when Campbellsville broke through once more to make the margin 3-0. At that point, the dam finally broke against Georgetown. Campbellsville would score 4 more times over the final 20 minutes for the 7-0 final score.
While Campbellsville managed only 5 total shots in the 1st half, the total bumped up to 13 in the 2nd half and proved to be too much for the Georgetown defense. Goalkeeper Daysia Thompson gave it her all, finishing the night with 7 saves. Georgetown's offense did not record a shot on goal until the 2nd half and managed 4 total for the match.
Georgetown returns to Toyota Stadium on Saturday for a matchup with Lindsey Wilson. Kickoff is set for 3:30pm.
