Georgetown suffered its 2nd straight defeat on Saturday against Taylor University by way of a 3-0 result. The Tigers offense was stymied for the 2nd straight match against a fast, physical Trojans defense.
Georgetown (2-2-1) struggled to find passing lanes and attack opportunities, particularly in the midfield for most of the action. Taylor (5-0-0) seemingly had an answer for everything the Tigers threw at them. The Trojans found paydirt early when Lauren Collins was able to sneak a ball past TIger keeper Madison Lonneman in the 17th minute to give Taylor a 1-0 lead. Lonneman held her own in the match. She played the 1st 45 minutes, before giving way to freshman Daysia Thompson in the 2nd half. Lonneman finished with 6 saves in the 1st half.
Before Lonneman departed though, Taylor found the net again. In the 39th minute, a deflected ball in the box got past Lonneman to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead. Both Tiger keepers faced a littany of shots as Taylor tallied 28 total shots in the match with 15 being on goal. The Trojans consistently found angles and opportunities in the forward third to keep pressure on the Tiger back line and keepers.
Daysia Thompson played the entire 2nd half in net and showed why the Tiger coaching staff was excited for her to arrive to Georgetown. She made multiple key stops in tight boxes to keep the margin close for Georgetown. Thompson ultimately finished with 6 saves of her own in the 2nd half. Taylor did get 1 final tally in the 72nd minute for the final result of 3-0.
Georgetown is next in action on Wednesday, September 14th against West Virginia Tech at 4:00pm.
