Miller's Hat Trick leads Georgetown romp

After a strong season-opening win at Berea, the Georgetown Tigers looked to open the 2022 home slate on a similar note. The Tigers delivered another offensive onslaught by beating Cleary University, 5-1.

Georgetown came out attacking early and put the pressure on a Cleary team that tried to work in a defensive tactic, showing concern for the speed of LIbby Miller. It didn't take long for Miller to get the scoring party started. In the 8th minute, Miller struck from the right side of the net to put the Tigers on top in a match Georgetown dominated from the opening kick. Miller would go on to add goals in the 48th and 69th minutes to complete the hat trick. 2 of Miller's goals were assisted by Madie Sparks, who continues her early season points barrage.

While the Tiger veteran Libby Miller sparked the Georgetown offense, it was a newcomer who gave the Tigers that added scoring punch. Sophomore transfer Demi van Stappershoef scored her 1st 2 goals in a Tiger uniform in the 32nd and 88th minutes, both set up by corners. Georgetown had plenty of chances to work on the corner kicks in the match. The Tigers earned 16 corners compared to 1 for Cleary.

Georgetown owned every statistical advantage in the match. In addition to the wide margin on corners, the Tigers outshot Cleary 26-3 overall and had an 18-3 margin in shots on goal. Georgetown also totaled 4 assists on the 5 goals.

The Tigers have now talled 11 goals in the 1st 2 matches of the season, the most to start a year in more than 15 years.

Georgetown is next in action on Saturday, September 3rd with a road trip to IU East. Kickoff is set for 4:00pm.
