Sparks' hat trick propels Tigers to opening romp

Madie Sparks made sure her senior campaign started with a bang. The Tigers forward recorded her second career hat trick in Georgetown's 6-2 season-opening win over Berea.

The Bardstown, KY native didn't play in Georgetown's 6-1 win over Berea in 2021 but more than made up for it in the 2022 match. The Mountaineers had no answer for Sparks all night long. The hat trick was the first for Georgetown since Sparks' first hat trick against Rio Grande in 2019.

Once Sparks got the scoring going, the youth of the team followed her lead. Loren Moran tallied her first of the year and 5th of her career to keep the pressure on the Mountaineers back line. Two new Tigers also got in on the scoring as freshmen Kylie Hudgins (Cynthiana, KY) and Demi Siemelink (Breezand, Netherlands) recorded their first collegiate goals.

Madison Lonneman (Cincinnati, OH) made her first career start in goal, playing the 1st 45 minutes and only allowing 1 goal. Freshman Daysia Thompson (Cincinnati, OH) made her Tigers debut in the 2nd half, allowing 1 goal while recording 3 saves.

Georgetown dominated every facet of the match. The Tigers outshot Berea 24-7, with shots on goal favoring GC 13-5.

The Tigers are next in action on Saturday, August 27th in the 2022 home opener against Cleary University. The match will be streamed live on the new, official Georgetown Athletics YouTube channel. Make sure to subscribe to the channel to follow the action all season long.
