Tigers come up short in high-scoring game

After a convincing 18-1 win over Madonna, Georgetown came into Tuesday's game at Marian full of confidence with an offense clicking on all cylinders. The offense continued its hot run, but Marian also brought the offense, and in the end, had just a bit more as the Knights beat the Tigers, 17-14.

Marian struck with the first 2 goals of the game in less than 4 minutes as the Knights took advantage of 2 woman-up situations for the early lead. Aubree Lair countered at the 8:29 mark with Georgetown's first off a feed from Katerina Gilbert. Hannah Voss scored a late goal in the quarter for the Tigers as Marian carried a 4-2 lead to the 2nd.

The 2nd quarter was all defense for the first 7-plus minutes. Katerina Gilbert broke that with an unassisted goal at 8:20 to bring Georgetown within 1. The Tigers tied the game just 15 seconds later as Hannah Voss quickly fired another shot home. From there, the quarter was dominated by the Knights as they outscored Georgetown 7-1 over the final 7:56. An unassisted goal from Madison Diaz was all the Tigers could muster as Marian charged to halftime with an 11-5 lead.

Hannah Voss got a goal back just 22 seconds into the 3rd quarter to get the Tigers off to a nice start. The defense tightened up in the 2nd as Marian only found the net twice on Madison Haney. 2 more goals from Katerina Gilbert and another from Madison Diaz cut into the deficit. Georgetown trailed 13-9 going to the 4th.

The Tigers kept pushing for the rally early in the 4th. Georgetown scored 3 goals in the first 4:32 of the 4th to cut Marian's lead to 14-12. Marian got a goal back at the 9:29 mark for a 3-goal edge. Katerina Gilbert kept firing and scored twice in 69 seconds to bring Georgetown within 1 at 15-14 with 6:30 to go. It proved to be the last for the Tigers as Marian tightened up its defense and also added 2 goals for good measure to seal the win.

Katerina Gilbert tallied her 2nd straight 5-goal game in the loss. She also added 2 assists and 9 draw controls. Hannah Voss was right behind Gilbert with 4 goals on the day. Madison Diaz scored 3 times to go with 7 draw controls. Aubree Lair finished with 2 goals and 2 assists. Madison Haney stopped 14 shots in goal.

The Tigers now prepare for a weekend trip to Michigan, starting on Friday with a game at Lawrence Tech. The opening draw is set for 6:00pm.
