Lair, Gilbert lead crushing of Crusaders

On a cold Saturday at Toyota Stadium, Georgetown's offense proved white hot against Madonna. Aubree Lair and Katerina Gilbert combined for 11 goals and 9 assists as the Tigers crushed the Crusaders, 18-1, to pick up the first win of the young season.

Gilbert needed little time to get going as she fired her first shot home just 1:57 into the game. She then assisted on the Tigers' 2nd goal as Madison Diaz scored with 6:59 left in the 1st for a 2-0 Tigers lead. Gilbert then followed with 2:55 to go off a feed from Aubree Lair to add to the lead. Lair then took her turn with just over a minute to go. Madonna was called for a card to put the Tigers in a woman-up situation. Lair took the free position shot and easily beat the Crusader keeper for a 4-0 Georgetown lead after 1.

Lair followed up just 30 seconds into the 2nd with another goal that set Georgetown off on a 9-goal explosion in the quarter. Lair tallied another goal and 3 assists in the 2nd. Her first assist came with 12:20 to go as Melanie Wieland broke free inside for the first of her 2 goals in the 2nd. Katerina Gilbert put 3 in the net in the quarter. Diaz and Hannah Voss also found the net as Georgetown put the running clock on Madonna after taking a 10-goal lead with just over 5 minutes left. It led to a 13-0 Georgetown lead at halftime.

Madonna's lone goal came with 5:56 to go in the 3rd, but did little to stop the onslaught. 3 more goals from Lair in the 3rd pushed the margin wider. The Tigers took a 16-1 lead to the 4th and got 2 more goals from Lindsey Maynard and Avery McAlister to punctuate the rout.

Aubree Lair finished the day with 6 goals and 4 assists. Katerina Gilbert ended with 5 goals, 5 assists, 5 draw controls and 4 ground balls. After a record-breaking 24 saves in the season opener, Madison Haney had a quieter day in goal as she only faced 11 shots, stopping 10.

Georgetown now prepares for its 1st road trip of the year. The Tigers head to Indianapolis next Tuesday to take on Marian. The opening draw is set for 5:00pm.
