24 GC goals overwhelm Brenau
After a tough trip to the southeast last week, Georgetown returned home on Saturday looking to get back in rhythm in AAC play. The Tigers did that and then some against Brenau, scoring 11 1st quarter goals, leading to a 24-1 romp and putting Georgetown back over .500 in AAC play.
Madison Diaz got the scoring onslaught started just 55 seconds into the game and it was on from there. Faith Boa scored 2 of her 6 1st half goals to follow, giving GC a 3-0 lead less than 5 minutes in. Maddie Brock added 2 goals in the 1st, as did Katerina Gilbert. Jessi Vazzana came in from her defensive positioning to put one in the net as the Tigers consistently controlled everything in the 1st against Brenau. The Tigers also worked with strong efficiency as they scored the 11 goals on just 14 shots and going 2-2 on free position shots.
In the 2nd, Faith Boa would score 3 more times as the clock ran throughout with the margin of more than 10. All 3 goals came off free position shots and the last came while the Tigers were down a player, leading to a 14-1 lead at the break.
Maddie Brock picked her scoring back up in the 3rd with 2 more tallies, while adding an assist on another goal from Madison Diaz. Madison Catoggio got into the scoring column late in the 3rd. She also tallied 4 assists on the day. The Tigers also got a late goal in the 4th from Olivia Yakel, who came on to play in the field, instead of her normal goalie position.
Madison Haney took the reigns in net for the 1st 3 quarters, recording 5 saves and pushing her over the 100 career save mark as a Tiger. Emily McDonald took over in net for the 4th and stopped all 3 shots she faced.
The Tigers go back on the road this Wednesday in league play against Truett-McConnell with a 3:00pm start time.
