Blackmon, Leighty earn All-American status
Georgetown College lacrosse seniors Avery Blackmon and Katherine Leighty have done a lot in their four seasons for the Tigers. Late Tuesday evening, they were honored one more time for all their efforts – three national tournament runs, one runner-up finish and 40-plus wins.
The tandem was named to the 2019 NAIA Women's Lacrosse First-Team All-American list. A total of 16 student-athletes from around the country received this honor. Blackmon was also named NAIA Player of the Year.
Blackmon rewrote Georgetown's record book in her four seasons, having an immediate impact on the team's run to a second place finish in the NAIA her freshman year. She finishes with more than 400 points and 500 draw controls. The Georgia native is a four-time NAIA First-Team All-American honoree and two-time conference player of the year.
Leighty has been honored twice before on the NAIA All-American list. The Indianapolis, Ind. native finished with more than 100 draw controls and nearly 50 points from a defensive position. Three times this season she netted a hat trick – wins over Ave Maria, Ottawa and Thomas More.
GC has had seven individuals earn All-American status, four of which have done it two or more times.
