Tigers erase early deficit, beat AMU

Georgetown College women's lacrosse hosted an exciting fan night Friday evening and delivered with a big win. The No. 9 Tigers (7-6, 2-2) erased an early three-goal deficit to roll past Ave Maria University, 18-10.

GC had several in-game contests, handed out rally towels and tossed out T-shirts with every home team goal. The crowd of more than 300 – a mix of student body, families and local supporters – created a great environment for a big Mid-South Conference match.

The Gyrenes tried to neutralize the crowd with three quick goals in the first six-plus minutes. However, a pair of Avery Blackmon unassisted goals bookended an 8-2 run to close the half. GC never looked back. AMU (5-7, 1-3) scored the first goal of the final 30 minutes, but Aly Case answered that with a Tiger free position goal. The Ave Maria never got closer.

Six Georgetown players scored, four of those had two or more goals. Blackmon led all scorers with seven goals and one assist. Her eight points moves her six from tallying 400 in her GC career.

Olivia Archer and Kat Leighty each finished with six points. Archer had four goals and two assists, while Leighty went three and three. Case had three points, two goals and an assist. Cam Hanna and Tess Borders each scored a goal, while CeCe Haas had an assist.

Rachel Kidwell picked up the win in goal with 11 saves, giving up only seven goals over the final 50-plus minutes of action.

Georgetown returns to action 1 pm Sunday against No. 3 Keiser.
