Blackmon leads charge in win over Life, 22-9

Avery Blackmon continues to shatter records on her final go round as a Tiger. The Georgetown College women's lacrosse senior tallied 14 goals in a dominate win over Life University Friday. This gives her another in-game record, beating Merrisa Heraldson's previous mark of 12. She also beat her own record of points in a game set earlier this year at 14. She finished the game with 15, adding an assist on Kat Leighty's goal.

Blackmon also tallied one assist and 17 draw controls as GC picked up its first Mid-South Conference win 22-9 over the Runnin' Eagles (5-5, 0-4).

The No. 8 Tigers (6-5, 1-2) had a two goal lead not five minutes into action in Marietta, Ga. and they never trailed. Tess Borders finished off a brilliant first 30 minutes with a goal inside the final minute. The visitors led 12-5.

Blackmon scored her first of eight second half goals with a free position shot nearly three minutes into the second half. Life trimmed the eight-point deficit to five, 13-8, but got no closer as the senior scored seven of the final 10 goals scored by either team. Teammates Morgan Ainsworth and Borders netted one each in the final 16:59 as the Tigers raced away from the Runnin' Eagles.

Georgetown returns to action 1 pm Sunday against No. 1 Savannah College of Art & Design – Savannah.
