Railsplitters hold off Tigers, win 16-11

Georgetown College women's lacrosse continues to step up the competition bar, taking on NCAA Division II Lincoln Memorial University Wednesday evening.

Through some intense rain and odd mist, the No. 6 Tigers (1-1) battled and nearly rallied back. The Railsplitters (1-1) took the 16-11 lead, but needed a burst after an early deficit to take control.

GC took a 4-1 edge not 10 minutes into action. Avery Blackmon, who finished with six goals, netted two early as well as assisted another. Olivia Archer and Cameron Hanna has the other two scores, as Georgetown set the pace.

Erin DePaul scored her second of a game-high seven goals for the visitors, starting a five goal burst to put LMU ahead for good.

Three separate time, Lincoln Memorial grabbed a seven goal lead, but Blackmon scored three goals in a five-minute span late to bring the Tigers within four with 10:47 left.

DePaul finished off the scoring with a shot with just under five minutes left.

Cameron and Archer each scored one more time through the game and Hannah Belk also scored for all of the Tigers goals.

Georgetown is back in action 5 pm March 1 at No. 4 Lawrence Technological University.

NOTES: During Wednesday's game, senior Avery Blackmon set two more program milestones. She is the first Tiger to tally 300 career points (one point for a goal, one point for an assist), and with her third goal she became the first Tiger to score 200 goals in a career.
