Holly Holton finishes 2nd at UPike Fall Invite
Holly Holton fired rounds of 80 & 77 to finish tied for 2nd in the UPike Fall Invite, played on Monday and Tuesday at StoneCrest in Prestonsburg, KY.
Holton got off to a slow start in the opening round with a bogey on 1, double on 3 and another bogey on 4. She bounced back with a solid birdie on the par-3 5th to get her round going. She made the turn in 42 (+6) but bounced back with 5 pars on the back 9 and a birdie on the par-5 14th for a 38 on the 2nd nine and the opening 80. Round 2 was solid early with 3 straight pars on 1-3 before a bogey on the 4th. Holton would bogey 7 and double-bogey 8 to make the turn in 40. She remained focused and solidified her spot on the leaderboard with 3 birdies on the back-9, including another on the 14th. Holton came home in 37 for the total of 77 on the day to move from a tie for 5th after day 1 into the runner-up spot at Tuesday's end.
As a team, the Tigers finished 3rd in the 6-team field. Maggie Browning finished with 17th on the leaderboard with a 180. Addy Gillmor came home in 21st with a tally of 190, and Jaycee Kabaski came home in a tie for 25th place with a 197. Kaelin Stull was nearing the end of her 2nd round when play ended for the day.
The Tigers are next scheduled to play in the Shawnee State Fall Invitational. The one-day tournament takes place this Friday starting at 11:00am at the Elks Country Club in McDermott, OH.
