No. 23 Tigers Secure Win over Union

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The No. 23 Georgetown College women's basketball team (11-0) picked up another win, 90-51 over Union Commonwealth (1-0) in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Wednesday night.  

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers played from behind for much of the early goings as the Bulldogs connected on their first three shots. A little over two minutes into the game, Union led 7-3 before an Eszter Dioszegi layup, followed by an Addesa Miller 3-pointer, gave Georgetown an 8-7 lead. In total, seven different Tigers scored in the first, and it was tied 17-17 heading into the second quarter. 

Anna Long scored the first three points of the second quarter as Georgetown opened up a 22-17 lead within the first three minutes of the quarter. A balanced offensive look was again the key for the Tigers in the second. Only Long had multiple made field goals as six different Tigers scored in the quarter to help Georgetown to a 34-32 lead at halftime.

Out of the locker room, the Georgetown starters carried the load. In total, 20 of the 24 points in the frame came from the starting core, as Kayra Freeman, Daisy Gale, and Daysha Reid all notched a full 10 minutes in the period. Gale led the way with seven points as Georgetown outscored Union by 14 in the third to take a 58-42 lead into the fourth. 

The Tigers' experience and fitness displayed itself once more in the fourth. Georgetown outscored Union 32-9 and utilized a 13-0 run to put things out of reach. A 60-46 lead transitioned into a 73-46 advantage over a three-minute span. Long added eight of her 18 points in the fourth to help Georgetown to the 90-51 victory.

THE TEAM 
Georgetown shot 42.0% from the field. The Tigers were 16-40 (40.0%) from deep and shot 6-13 (46.2%) at the free-throw line. Both sides pulled down 42 rebounds. The Tigers led in assists, 22-11, and had two blocks. GC had 18 steals to UC's three.

THE PLAYERS

Anna Long finished with a game-high 18 points off the bench with three steals.

Kayra Freeman collected 17 points off five made 3-pointers, with seven rebounds and six assists.

Daysha Reid added 15 points with five rebounds and four assists.
