Tigers Push Past Pomeroys for Eighth Straight Win
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The (RV) Georgetown College women's basketball team (8-0) extended its winning streak to eight by beating St. Mary of the Woods College (0-4) 77-50 in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Thursday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers' lowest scoring night of the season still saw 77 points on the scoreboard in the win. Things were kick-started by a 23-point opening quarter in which Georgetown used a pair of threes from Addesa Miller to push out to a 13-point advantage. The final four minutes of the quarter saw the Tigers outscore the Pomeroys 12-3 to take a 23-10 lead into the second quarter.
In the second, it took over a minute and a half for Kayra Freeman to break the scoring drought before the Tigers poured it on. The first 16 points of the frame belonged to the home side as the lead stretched to 39-10 with just over five minutes to play in the half. Haley Dillman had four points, and Anna Long connected from range down the stretch to give Georgetown a 46-17 halftime lead.
The scoring run extended into the third quarter for Georgetown when Jackie Onunwor sank a pair of foul shots to give the Tigers a 31-point cushion. Daisy Gale had seven of her game-high 16 points in the third to lift the Tigers to a 30-point lead after three. Despite being outscored by a point in the quarter, St. Mary of the Woods did not fully back down heading into the fourth, down 63-33.
The first seven points went to the Pomeroys in the fourth before Anna Long made two fouls shots to get the Tigers in the book. An Ashley Rojas layup followed by a Daisy Gale 3-pointer gave the Tigers a 70-46 lead with just over five minutes to play. In the closing minutes, Taylee Woodbury added five points and Jordan Day a bucket to help the Tigers to a 77-50 win.
THE TEAM
Georgetown shot 34.2% from the field. The Tigers were 10-49 (20.4%) from deep and shot an impressive 13-17 (76.5%) at the free-throw line. GC won the rebound battle, 53-37. The Tigers led in assists, 18-9, and had five blocks. GC had 15 steals to SMC's eight.
THE PLAYERS
* Daisy Gale finished with a game-high 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field.
* Daysha Reid added 11 points and had six rebounds with two assists.
* Taylee Woodbury produced 11 points off the bench and collected five rebounds.
