Woodbury Splashes 19 in Fourth to Help Tigers Finish Warriors
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The (RV) Georgetown College women's basketball team (7-0) took down Webber International University (1-2) 115-67 in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Monday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers offensive explosion started on the first possession when Kayra Freeman nailed a 3-pointer to get things started. Layups followed by Daisy Gale and Eszter Dioszegi before the Warriors found the bottom of the net. Nine different Tigers saw the floor in the dominant first quarter, with seven scoring as the scoreboard read 23-2 with just under two minutes to play. The Warriors' first field goal came at the 1:24 mark of the first quarter and Georgetown took a 28-7 lead after the opening 10 minutes.
The second quarter saw Georgetown grow its advantage by 10 as Anna Long came on to score eight of her 10 points in the period. Behind Long's 3-pointer at the 5:36 mark Georgetown ballooned its lead to 43-12. The Tigers held a 52-21 lead at the break.
After Jackie Onunwor connected for the opening basket of the third quarter, it was all Warriors. The visitors used a 10-0 run to cut it to a 54-32 game, but that is the closet it would get the rest of the way as the Tigers went on to take a 74-48 lead into the fourth.
The fourth quarter featured the best 10 minutes of basketball this season for Taylee Woodbury. The freshman from Union City, Ohio sank all eight of her shots, three from distance to finish with 19 in the quarter. She added two assists during her shooting barrage and finished the game with a season-high 22 points. The Tigers went on to win 115-67.
THE TEAM
Georgetown shot 50.6% from the field. The Tigers were 11-30 (36.7%) from deep and shot an impressive 24-29 (82.8%) at the free-throw line. GC won the rebound battle, 56-29. The Tigers led in assists, 26-8, and had two blocks. GC had 19 steals to WIU's seven.
THE PLAYERS
* Taylee Woodbury finished with a game-high 22 points off the bench on 9-of-10 shooting from the field.
* Daisy Gale added 19 points and had nine rebounds with five steals and five assists.
* Daysha Reid produced 17 points and collected five rebounds with nine assists.
