Klock, Defense lead rout of Park

Georgetown's defense forced 27 turnovers and held Park to 31% shooting in an 82-51 win to open the Remy Williams Memorial Invitational on Friday night.

The Tigers' offense struggled in the opening quarter, scoring just 2 points in the first 4:38, which allowed the Pirates to take an early 6-2 lead. The Tigers got going with a 7-2 run to take a brief 9-8 lead. Back-to-back Annie Watson layups gave GC a 13-11 edge. The buckets were 2 of only 4 made field goals for the Tigers in the quarter as Park moved ahead 17-15 after 1.

Early 2nd quarter free throws from Trinity Klock and Abby Varney kept the Tigers right with Park. Georgetown then went to work inside and got 2 buckets from Callie Jackson and a third from Klock to take a 27-21 lead midway through the 2nd. More free throws pushed Georgetown's lead to 33-23, forcing Park to call for time with 3:49 left in the quarter. The lead swelled to 13 at 41-28 by halftime. Park shot just 2-11 in the frame and committed 7 turnovers. Conversely, the Tigers shot 50% and 9-11 at the line to create separation on the scoreboard.

In the 3rd, Georgetown's lead slowly grew, reaching as high as 17 in the opening 4 minutes thanks to more strong inside work from Callie Jackson. With just under 3 minutes left in the period, AJ Stevenson drilled a long 3 to push the lead to 58-40. The defense held Park scoreless over the final 3:03 of the 3rd and took a 60-40 lead to the 4th.

Georgetown left no doubt of the game's result in the first 5 minutes of the 4th. The Tigers outscored Park 14-2 in that stretch to take a 74-42 lead. The Tigers held Park to just 2-8 shooting and forced 10 turnovers in the final 10 minutes to claim the win.

The Tigers turned 27 Park turnovers into 25 points on the board. The Pirates also made just 1 out of 16 3-point tries on its home floor. Trinity Klock led Georgetown with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Teionni McDaniel scored 13 points and dished out 4 assists. Callie Jackson and Annie Watson scored 11 points each and combined for 10 boards and 5 steals. AJ Stevenson finished with 9 points and 8 rebounds. Abby Varney ended with 8 points and 3 steals.

The Tigers finish the Remy Williams Memorial Invitational on Saturday afternoon against MidAmerica Nazarene. Tip time is set for 1:00pm ET.
