Women's Hoops Earns At-Large Berth to NAIA Tourney
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the 2022 Women's Basketball National Championship bracket on Thursday evening, and after they made a run to the Mid-South Conference title game, the Georgetown College Tigers find themselves in the field of 64.
Georgetown (22-11) earned the No. 7 seed in the Cramer Bracket for the 41st annual NAIA tournament, and they are one of four teams headed to Newhall, California for the Opening Round.
The Tigers will head to Newhall along with the host team from The Master's University (29-3) who are the No. 2 seed in the quadrant, and the top-seed at the Opening Round site. Also joining the Tigers and the Mustangs will be the Southern Oregon University Raiders (28-5) and the University of California Merced Bobcats (18-7). All three other participants in the Opening Round qualified for the NAIA Championship as champions of their respective conference tournaments, while the Tigers were an at-large selection.
Georgetown will open the tournament against the SOU Raiders. The meeting will be the first ever between the two teams, and in fact, the Tigers have never met any of the three teams they could face. Game times have not been announced, but the Tigers and the Raiders will play the first game at the site, with The Master's and UC-Merced set to play in the second game. The games will be on Friday, March 11, and the winners of the first two games will meet in the round of 32 on Saturday, March 12.
The winner of the site will advance to the final site for the Championship, which will be held from March 17-22 at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
