Tigers Sweep Thorobreds Again

FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Georgetown College softball team (17-17, 6-9 MSC) swept Kentucky State University (3-29, 3-19 SIAC) on Wednesday evening at State Stadium.

The Tigers took down the Thorobreds 14-3 in the opener before Georgetown claimed game two, 12-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE      
Both sides combined for two hits through the opening two innings, as it was Georgetown who broke the scoring drought in the third with three runs. Addi Watson singled in one run before a passed ball and a groundout plated two more. A two-out triple by the hosts yielded one run in the bottom of the third, as Georgetown once again went quiet in the fourth. The bottom of the fourth saw the Thorobreds tie things up when a bases-loaded single followed by a fielding error by the third baseman made it a 3-3 game. The Tigers blew the game open in the fifth with a six-run frame. A pair of errors plated runs and a Kinley Lucas tripled, clearing the bases, making it 9-3 Tigers. Georgetown added five more runs in the sixth, highlighted by run-scoring doubles from both Haylee Stansbury and Mady Godsey to help lift the Tigers to a 14-3 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME ONE      
Haylee Stansbury went 1-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Kinley Lucas was 1-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.
Corinne Garmon went 0-1 with a walk, two runs scored and three RBIs.
Kylie Miller (11-6) picked up the win, pitching the 4.0 innings, striking out four with eight hits and three earned runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO     
Game two featured some early offense as the Tigers plated three in the top of the first. Lilli Koch grounded out to score a run before Kinley Lucas doubled in two more. KSU used a two-out single to get one run back in the bottom of the first. The Tigers added three more runs in the second behind an Ainsley Herron two-run single to right field. Then, Addi Watson's sac bunt made it 6-1. The Thorobreds scored three in the bottom of the third off a double to make it 6-4. Georgetown added two more in the fourth and two in the fifth to push ahead 10-4 through five innings. The Tigers scored their final two runs in the sixth off a passed ball and a Delaney Vaughn single to left field to go on to win, 12-4.

Kylie Miller was 3-3 with two RBIs, three runs scored and a walk.
Addi Watson was 2-3 with two RBIs, two runs scored and a walk.
Kinley Lucas was 2-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Kylie Miller (12-6) picked up the win, tossing 4.0 innings and allowing just three hits with two strikeouts.

UP NEXT   
The Tigers host Freed-Hardeman University (17-19, 7-8 MSC) for a three-game series with Mid-South Conference tournament implications. The winner of the series claims the tournament's number four seed.

First pitch with the Lions is set for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24, at the Tiger Softball Complex.
