Tigers Pick Up First MSC Sweep
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Georgetown College softball team (13-13, 6-6 MSC) hosted a Mid-South Conference series against Cumberland University (10-17, 3-6 MSC) on Thursday and Friday at the Tiger Softball Complex.
The Tigers took down the Phoenix 1-0 in game one before Georgetown won game two, 1-0.
On Friday, the Tigers closed the series with a 5-1 win over the Phoenix.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
Game on featured just six combined hits and the lone run in the seventh. After allowing a one-out single in the top of the first, starting pitcher Kylie Miller tossed four consecutive hitless frames. Just two walks marked those frames as the Tigers were held hitless through the first five with just one base-runner to show. While the bats woke up in the sixth, three hits for the Tigers, two runners were left on base. In the seventh, Miller retired the side after issuing a lead-off walk. Ainsley Herron opened the bottom of the seventh off with a single before Kady Dennis put down a sacrifice bunt. On the play, Herron advanced to third before a throwing error on the first baseman allowed the walk-off run to score.

* Corinne Garmon went 1-2.
* Kylie Miller (8-4) picked up the win, striking out nine along the way with just two hits of shutout softball.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
Game two set up similarly to the opener as both sides combined for just two hits through the first three innings. Both starting pitchers settled in and it wasn't until the bottom of the sixth that the difference occurred. Ainsley Herron led the inning off with a single to left before a groundout advanced her to second. From there, Kinley Lucas doubled in the game's only run as the Phoenix went down in order in the seventh.

* Ainsley Herron went 1-3 with a run scored.
* Kinley Lucas was 2-3 with an RBI.
* Elle Prewitt (1-2) picked up the win, tossing a complete game shutout with just three hits and a walk allowed. She struck out two.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME THREE
The first inning provided five runs. The Phoenix used a two-out double to left field to score their lone run of the series. In the bottom of the first, with two on, Michalee Clay was driven in when the center fielder bobbled the ball. Kinley Lucas then tripled to right field to bring in two more. Lucas stole home as part of a double steal to cap a four-run frame for Georgetown. Corinne Garmon homered to right center field to lead off the second to cap the scoring, 5-1. The Phoenix collected four hits the rest of the way as the Tigers held on for the sweep.

* Kinley Lucas was 1-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
* Kylie Miller (9-4) picked up the win, tossing four innings while striking out three, allowing one run off five hits.
