Tigers Sweep Past Thorobreds

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Georgetown College softball team (10-10, 3-3 MSC) played Kentucky State University (3-16, 3-10 SIAC) in a midweek series on Tuesday at the Tiger Softball Complex.

The Tigers took down the Thorobreds 8-1 in game one before Georgetown won game two, 5-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE      
Kylie Miller's double and Ainsley Herron's single pushed the Tigers ahead in the bottom of the first in game one. Georgetown scored a run in every frame but the fifth in this one, as the second inning saw Herron ground out and bring in another run. In the third, Kaytlyn Spickard reached via a fielder's choice and brought in another run before Georgetown tallied two runs in the fourth. This time, run scoring singles off the bat of both Haylee Stansbury and Taylor Reid made it 7-0. The Thorobreds scored their first run of the day in the sixth when a passed ball brought in a run. Stansbury singled again in the sixth to make it an 8-1 game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME ONE      
Michalee Clay went 3-4 with two runs scored.
Kylie Miller was 3-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Ainsley Herron went 1-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Kylie Miller (7-3) picked up the win, striking out eight, allowing just one run off three hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO     
Neither team received a base hit in the first inning before Addi Watson broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the second. She led the inning off with a solo home run. Georgetown doubled its lead in the third with a groundout off the bat of Michalee Clay to make it 2-0. KSU picked up two of its six hits in the fourth but had nothing else to show for it. Delaney Vaughn connected for a sacrifice fly to right in the fifth, making it a 3-0 game. The Thorobreds tied the game in the sixth with a pair of singles. Clay's single in the bottom of the sixth proved to be the difference, though, as it scored two and gave the Tigers the 5-3 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME TWO      
Addi Watson was 2-2 with an RBI, a walk, and a run scored.
Michalee Clay went 1-2 with three RBIs and a run scored.
Lilli Koch was 1-3 with a walk.
Evie Thomas (1-0) picked up the win, tossing the final 1.2 innings while striking out three.

UP NEXT   
The Tigers hit the road in the Mid-South Conference over the weekend against #16 Lindsey Wilson University (20-3, 2-1 MSC) on Friday, March 27.
