Tiger bats struggle in series finale loss

After a tough offensive day on Friday, Georgetown was looking for a spark to salvage the series finale at Freed-Hardeman. The Tigers scored again in the top of the 1st but garnered little else as Freed-Hardeman rallied for a 3-1 win to complete the sweep.

With 1 out in the top of the 1st, Alanna Pierce and Michalee Clay each singled to reach base. The pair then stole 3rd and 2nd respectively. Kinley Lucas then slapped a grounder to 1st for the 2nd out, but Pierce scored from 3rd to give Georgetown the lead. Elle Prewitt got the start for the Tigers and retired the Lion side in order.

In the bottom of the 2nd, Prewitt quickly retired the first two batters but then gave up a solo homer to left to tie the game at 1 heading to the 3rd. Georgetown had a chance to retake the lead as Alanna Pierce tripled to right with 2 away. Michalee Clay grounded out to 2nd to end the inning, leaving Pierce at 3rd.

After a 1 out single in the bottom of the 3rd, Prewitt was lifted for Addi Watson, who was able to leave a runner stranded at 3rd and keep the game tied. Freed-Hardeman got the lead in the bottom of the 4th off Watson. With 1 out, Watson allowed a single and walk. After a meeting in the circle, Watson gave up another single to left to give the Lions a 2-1 lead. It would have been 3-1, but Kinley Lucas fired a dart home that caught the runner retreating to 3rd, but the throw to the base was in time.

Freed-Hardeman added an unearned run in the bottom of the 6th as Georgetown had 1 batter reach base over the final 3 innings.

The Tigers will look to get back on the winning track with a doubleheader Tuesday against Kentucky State. Game 1 is slated for a 3:00pm start at the Tiger Softball Complex.
