Tigers run-ruled in game 1 by Blue Raiders
Georgetown opened MSC play on Thursday against Lindsey Wilson. The Blue Raiders pounced on the Tigers from the start of game 1 and never looked back en route to a 12-2, 5-inning win.
Elle Prewitt got the start for Georgetown, and after a leadoff groundout, found trouble. A single and double put runners at 2nd & 3rd. The Blue Raiders went for a squeeze in the next at-bat. The bunt was put down and the runner from 3rd beat the tag at home for a 1-0, LWC lead. Prewitt did bounce back to retire the final 2 batters of the inning.
The 2nd inning proved Georgetown's undoing. Lindsey Wilson led it off with a long home run to left field for a 2-0 lead. Elle Prewitt then walked 2 of the next 3 with a single in between to load the bases. She was lifted from the game and replaced by Emma O'Daniel. The first batter against O'Daniel hit a weak dribbler to 3rd, but the throw home sailed wide and allowed another run to score and kept the bases full. A single followed and scored another run. It would have been 2 if not for a terrific throw from Ainsley Herron to Kady Dennis at the plate to nail the runner. The play did not deter the Blue Raiders as they followed with a 2 RBI double, a sac fly, and infield single to further the damage. In total, Lindsey Wilson scored 6 times in the inning to take a 7-0 after an inning and a half.
Stevie Shepherd led off the bottom of the 3rd with a double down the left field line, but was only able to advance another 60 feet. The next 3 batters were retired in order to keep Georgetown off the board. The 3rd inning was quiet on both sides. Lindsey Wilson made sure the 4th would not be the same. A leadoff double followed by a walk spelled the end for Emma O'Daniel as Elle Prewitt was brought back to the circle. Prewitt retired the first 2 she faced but could not make it 3 straight. A sharp double to right center scored both runs to extend the lead to 9. The Blue Raiders put 2 more on the board in the inning to take an 11-0 lead.
They would add another in the top of the 5th before Georgetown got its first shot at runs. Grace Losey led off with an infield single to short. Kady Dennis followed with a walk. After a Haylee Stansbury single, the bases were full with no out. Lilli Koch lofted a shallow ball that dropped between the 2nd baseman and centerfielder to score Losey. Stansbury was out at 2nd on the play. Aubry Hollins had been sent in to run for Dennis after her walk. With runners at the corners, Koch danced between 1st and 2nd. Lindsey Wilson took the bait as Hollins sprinted for home and beat the throw for Georgetown's 2nd run. It proved the end though as the next 2 batters popped out in foul territory to end the game.
Elle Prewitt took her 3rd loss of the year, after going 3 total innings and allowing 9 hits and 8 runs.
