Softball drops Saturday opener to Stillman

After a thrilling win over Stillman on Friday, Georgetown looked for a repeat in the rematch on Saturday. After a quiet front 3 innings, Stillman's offense came to life late and proved too much in a 6-1 win over Georgetown.

Stillman threatened immediately as they loaded the bases in the top of the 1st with only 1 out. Starting pitcher, Addi Watson, wiggled her way out with an infield fly and a strikeout to keep Stillman off the board.

Georgetown's first threat came in the bottom of the 2nd inning. With 1 out, Alanna Pierce singled to center. She sprinted to third thanks to a single by Addi Watson down the left field line. Michalee Clay followed with a ground ball to 1st, but Pierce could not take the chance from 3rd. Taylor Reid stepped up with a chance but went down on strikes to end the threat.

Stillman tested Watson again in the top of the 3rd. An error put the lead runner on, but the Tiger defense then followed with a 5-4-3 double play. Stillman countered with singles to left and center with 2 outs. Watson was able to induce a weak grounder to 3rd to end the inning and keep Stillman scoreless.

Stillman broke through in the top of the 4th. After 2 outs, a triple to right put a threat on. On the next play, Georgetown went for a play at home, which wasn't in time, thus giving Stillman a 1-0 lead after 4 innings. Stillman pushed another run home in the top of the 5th, but Watson was able to limit the damage and stranded the bases loaded.

Emma O'Daniel came on to pitch the top of the 6th for Georgetown. Stillman took advantage by scoring 3 times with O'Daniel on the mound to break the game down. O'Daniel was charged with a 4th run after being relived by Kinley Lucas with 2 out in the inning. Georgetown got on the board in the bottom of the inning. Lilli Koch drew a walk with 1 out and moved to 2nd on a grounder. Kady Dennis followed with a grounder to short that was misplayed, allowing Koch to run all the way home to get Georgetown within 6-1 after 6.

Stillman threatened with more in the top of the 7th, but Lucas was able to work around an error and 2 walks to strand the bases loaded. Georgetown had a chance to threaten in the bottom of the inning. With 1 out, Michalee Clay singled to short. She moved to 2nd on a Taylor Reid single. Ainsley Herron then singled back to the pitcher to load the bases with 1 out. The momentum ended there as a strikeout and popup ended the game.

Addi Watson took the loss despite a strong performance on the mound. Watson pitched 5 innings, allowing 2 runs and scattering 7 hits with 59 strikes on 89 pitches.
