Claxon's 3rd straight CG seals win over Thomas More

Georgetown used early offense and another terrific outing from ace Sarah Claxon on the mound to knock off Thomas More in the first of a Sunday doubleheader, pushing the Tigers win streak to 6 games overall.

Thomas More led off the game with consecutive doubles to get on the board, before Claxon settled in by striking out 2 of the next 3 in the top of the 1st. The Tigers offense responded in the bottom of the inning. Both Kaylyn Barnett and Stevie Shepherd were hit by pitches. Mallory Myers followed with a shot to center that was misplayed by the Saints centerfielder, allowing Barnett to score, and sending Shepherd to 3rd. Claxon stepped to the plate and grounded out to short, but Shepherd scored to give GC a 2-1 lead. 2 batters later, Myers would score on a sac fly from Peyton Beger, giving Georgetown a 3-1 lead after an inning.

Claxon took the mound and kept the Saints at bay, allowing just a single over the next 2 innings, while racking up 2 more strikeouts. The GC offense added another run in the 3rd. With the bases loaded, Ashley Shelton drove a ball deep into the right field corner, scoring Mallory Myers via the sacrifice fly, pushing the Tigers lead to 4-1.

Thomas More would score a run in both the 4th and 5th innings to get within 4-3. With the tying run at 3rd in the top of the 5th, Claxon was able to induce a fly out to center, keeping her team in the lead. In the 6th and after a leadoff strikeout, the Saints got back-to-back singles. Claxon answered the bell again, getting a fly out and strikeout to end the threat, keeping the Tigers in front as the GC offense stalled, mustering just 3 total hits in the game.

It would prove to be the final threat as the Saints went down 1-2-3 in the 7th, preserving the win streak and another complete game win for Sarah Claxon. She improves to 8-2 on the year with a 2.31 ERA.
