Late offense costs Tigers Game 1 vs UNOH
UNOH scored 2 runs in the 6th and 7th innings to swipe away game 1 of a Saturday doubleheader against Georgetown, 5-4.
Pitching dominated most of the game as each side was only able to scratch 1 run across through the 1st 5 innings. Mallory Myers got the Tigers on the board in the bottom of the 4th after ripping a triple down the right field line. She would score after an error to tie the game at 1.
UNOH would take the lead in the top of the 6th when Tess Denning hit a 2-run homer off Sarah Claxon, giving the Racers a 3-1 lead. Claxon pitched 6 innings, allowed 6 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 2.
In the bottom of the 6th, Cassie Rannells and Peyton Beger reached base on consecutive errors. Ella Forish followed with a single up the middle, bringing Rannells home, making the score 3-2, UNOH. Haylee Stansbury was then called off the bench to pinch hit and delivered a game-tying RBI single, scoring Beger. Kaylyn Barnett put the Tigers on top with a single that scored Forish.
Emma Cummings entered the game on the mound in the 7th, looking for the save. UNOH had other ideas. The Racers' first 2 batters reached. After a strikeout, the Racers got an infield single to load the bases. Cummings was able to induce a fielder's choice play at the plate, recording the 2nd out, but the bases remained loaded. The Racers found the 2-out hit they were looking for, and it scored 2 runs, putting them up, 5-4. Ashley Shelton reached in the bottom of the 7th, but the Tigers could not bring her home, and thus dropped the opener.
Mallory Myers finished 2-4 with a run scored. Ella Forish called a strong game behind the plate and went 2-2 with a walk at the plate.
