Tigers Crack Into Top-25, Ranked No. 23 in Latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches Rating
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Georgetown College men's wrestling team is ranked No. 23 in the latest NAIA men's wrestling rating released by the NAIA on Thursday.
Leland Reeves cracked back into the top-25 this week in the 133 class with 44 points at #18 overall. Reeves enjoyed a 4-2 overall record at the Missouri Valley Invite, making the round of 12.
Navarro Nanpuya jumped all the way to #8 in the 184 class after his dominant run at the Missouri Valley Invite crowned him champion of the 184 bracket and Mid-South Conference Wrestler of the Week. Nanpuya went 6-0 and knocked off both the No. 10 and No. 21 ranked wrestler in the Invite.
Doug Dittmer is also ranked in the 184 class, #23 overall. Dittmer finished seventh in the 184 class at the Missouri Valley Invite with a 5-2 record.
Marcus James moved up to #13 overall in the 197 class after a second-place finish in the Missouri Valley Invite. James went 5-1 and fell in the championship match to the then ranked No. 7 wrestler.
Finally, Luke Cox moved up to #19 in the 285 class after a seventh place finish in the heavyweights at the Missouri Valley Invite. Cox also put together a 5-2 record at the Invite.
Life (Ga.) took over the throne as the No. 1 team in the NAIA Men's Wrestling rankings on Jan. 29 behind 261 points. The Running Eagles had 12 individual wrestlers appear in the rankings, with three ranked at No. 2, two ranked at No. 3, and seven individuals within the top five.
Within the team rankings, Life (Ga.) and Grand View (Iowa) flipped in the one and two spots from the last ranking, while the remainder of the top five teams stayed the same, with Southeastern (Fla.) at No. 3 with 221 points, Indiana Tech at No. 4 with 180 points, and Oklahoma City at No. 5 with 170 points.
Cumberlands (Ky.) moved into a stronger position within the top 10, climbing from No. 9 to No. 7 with 141 points. Missouri Valley posted the largest jump among teams in the top-10 discussion, moving up three spots from No. 13 to No. 10 with 131 points. Further down in the rankings, Concordia (Neb.) made a significant jump from No. 22 to No. 16.
The Tigers hit the mats one more time at home this season as they host Midway and Rochester Christian in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Tuesday, February 3.
