Tigers Compete Well at Lucha Open

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. – The Georgetown College men's wrestling team competed in the Lucha Open on Saturday.

Leland Reeves headlined the day with a second-place finish in the 133 weight class in the gold division. Reeves dropped a close decision to NCAA Div. I wrestler, Logan Hall.

Wyatt Payne and Luke Cox both notched five wins on the day, with Payne taking seventh place overall in the 125 weight class. Cox, along with Marcus James, both took sixth place in their respective classes as well. James lost in the quarter finals to a Div. I wrestler, but bounced back to get a win over #23, finishing in sixth ahead of the #9 and #24 ranked wrestlers.

Cox wrestled the champion of his bracket to an OT match in the first round. He wrestled all the way through the back side, reaching the fifth-place match before hitting his match limit for the day.

The Lucha Open was split into two divisions, with the more experienced wrestlers in the Gold division. At weigh-ins, the Gold had almost 300 entries, and the silver division topped that with 385 entries.

The Tigers are back on the mats the first weekend of December when they go to Indiana Little State on December 6.

The tournament is set to start at 9:00 a.m. in Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.
