Bak's 29 Kills Lifts #13 Tigers Past (RV) Phoenix in Four

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The No. 13 Georgetown College men's volleyball team (18-7, 13-2 RSC) completed the season sweep of and extended its winning streak to seven by taking down Cumberland University (14-12, 9-7 RSC) on Friday night in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.

Georgetown defeated Cumberland in four sets: 21-25, 29-27, 25-15, 25-17.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After securing the opening point of the night, Georgetown faced a 4-1 deficit behind the Phoenix's sharp attacking. After rallying to tie things at 7-7 outside of a Cumberland timeout, the Tigers built out as much as a three-point advantage before things shifted. A 7-2 run for the Phoenix made it a 17-15 game in favor of the visitors, who really did their damage late. Capitalizing on a pair of errors, and kills it was 21-18 Phoenix. Cumberland claimed the opener 25-21 off a Tiger attack error.

The second set went long as no team ever led by more than two points throughout. Cumberland went from down two to up two as part of a 4-0 run, the set's longest stretch, but it was Georgetown who settled things at 10-10. From there, six more ties pushed things to 24-24 and extra points before an Adam Szewinski kill, followed by an attack error gave the set to Georgetown 29-27.

The Tigers stormed out to a 6-2 lead in the third and rode that momentum to an 18-10 lead, forcing a Phoenix timeout. Georgetown locked in defensively and continued to find its rhythm in its attacking game to close out the third, 25-15.

Cumberland gained early control of the fourth at 4-2, but before the Phoenix got too comfortable, Michal Bak rattled off four straight kills to give the Tigers the advantage, one they would not surrender again. A Ben Milam attack error tied things at 10-10, and another error by Santino Zucchiatti made it 15-14 Georgetown before the hosts called a timeout. A 5-1 run ensued, and it was all Georgetown from there, who won 25-17.
