No. 15 Tigers Sweep Red Wolves for Fifth Straight Win
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The No. 15 Georgetown College men's volleyball team (16-7, 11-2 RSC) made it five straight wins, taking down Indiana University East (6-10, 4-8 RSC) on Friday night in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
Georgetown defeated Indiana East in three sets: 28-26, 28-26, 25-14.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening set of the night went to the Tigers after a hard-fought battle. The first timeout was called after the Tigers used a 5-0 run to separate 11-6. From there, Georgetown didn't string together more than two consecutive points until it mattered most. Things were tied at 18-18, and later 22-22, before the Red Wolves fended off four set points. In the end, the Tigers secured the opener, though, 28-26, behind a bad set.
Georgetown fell behind in the early stages of the second set before an Adam Szewinski kill tied it up at 9-9. IU East took five of the next six points and pushed out to a 14-11 lead. The Red Wolves maintained their lead throughout most of the rest of the way before Georgetown fended off a set point with a Michal Bak kill. Back-to-back Santino Zucchiatti kills gave the Tigers the second, 28-26.
The Tigers wasted little time putting the third out of reach. After winning seven of the first 10 points, the Tigers faced a short rally from the Red Wolves, who made it a 10-7 game. From there, though, the Tigers used a 4-0 run to push ahead 14-8. The Tigers kept attacking at the net and found holes in the Red Wolves' defense for the 25-14 win in the third.
