No. 15 Tigers Beat Bearcats, Sweep Pomeroy's For 2-0 Weekend

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The No. 15 Georgetown College men's volleyball team (14-7, 9-2 RSC) made it three in a row with a pair of wins over Brescia University (14-8, 5-5 RSC) on Friday night and St. Mary of the Woods College (24-6, 6-5) on Saturday.

Georgetown defeated Brescia in five sets: 25-13, 24-26, 28-26, 19-25, 15-12.

Georgetown defeated SMWC in three sets: 25-23, 25-20, 25-22.

HOW IT HAPPENED – BRESCIA
The quickest set of the evening went to the Tigers, 25-13, who commanded a game-best .480% in the opener.

The second set was the next of two to be extended, with both sides claiming one apiece. Brescia won the second, 26-24, before the Tigers pulled off a 28-26 win in set three.

The fourth set belonged to the hosts, 25-19, as it was the lone set in which the hosts collected a better attacking percentage.

Georgetown took the pivotal fifth set, 15-12, behind a key late rally which pushed them in front by four.

THE TEAM – BRESCIA
Georgetown hit .347 as a squad, with BU earning a .291 mark. The Tigers had 69 kills and 62 assists. Georgetown collected nine service aces and 50 digs.  

THE PLAYERS – BRESCIA
Michal Bak collected a team-high 20 kills with five digs and five block solos.
Kristjan Unt had 14 kills and finished the double-double with 12 digs and two service aces.
Adam Szewinski also added 14 kills to go with three block solos and two block assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED – SMWC
Georgetown trailed just once in the first set after taking the first point of the day, the Pomeroy's claimed the next two, but it was all Tigers from there. The set was tied three times, but Georgetown claimed the first, 25-23, behind a Ben Milam kill.

The second set went to the Tigers much in part to a late rally. Georgetown only trailed once again after a 3-0 SMWC run put them behind 17-16. From there, though, a 7-1 stretch nearly brought set point. The teams traded points until Georgetown won the set, 25-20.

The Tigers played from behind in the third set for much of the middle stages. A 5-1 run spurt after dropping the opening point gave the visitors early control before the hosts had a 6-2 stretch to tie things at 9-9. Georgetown trailed by as many as two in this one before using another 5-1 run to give itself a two-point edge, 22-20. The Tigers won the third, 25-22.

THE TEAM – SMWC
Georgetown hit .333 as a squad, with SMWC earning a .211 mark. The Tigers had 47 kills and 46 assists. Georgetown collected one service ace and 52 digs.  

THE PLAYERS – SMWC
Michal Bak led the way with 13 kills and 11 digs for the double-double.
Adam Szewinski had 10 kills with two digs and three block assists.
Kristjan Unt added eight kills to go with 12 digs and two assists.

UP NEXT
The Tigers close up their road stretch and the month of March at the University of Rio Grande (13-9, 5-6 RSC) on Tuesday, March 31.
