(RV) Tigers Extend Winning Streak to Seven with Sweep of Phoenix

LEBANON, Tenn. – The (RV) Georgetown College men's volleyball team (11-6, 6-1 RSC) made it seven straight wins, beating Cumberland University (9-9, 5-4 RSC) on Friday night in Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena.

The Tigers defeated the Phoenix in three sets: 25-22, 25-21, 25-13.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Errors from both sides marked the opening of this one as Georgetown broke the 2-2 tie, capitalizing on three straight Phoenix errors. The next steady run of the set came with the Tigers up 7-5. A 5-1 spurt pushed Georgetown ahead for good, 11-5. Despite a mid-set push by the Phoenix to pull within three, 16-13. In fact, Cumberland made it a one-point game after consecutive kills made it a 21-20 game, before the Tigers closed out the opener, 25-22.

The second set saw six lead changes in the first 10 points as the Tigers went on the first short run, capitalizing once again on some Phoenix errors to grab a 9-6 lead. The second was decided in the middle with things tied 10-10. Georgetown used a 6-1 stretch to lead once again for good, 16-11. Cumberland did not go away, pulling back within two points late, but Georgetown closed out the second, 25-21, behind a kill from Adam Szewinski.

Things got out of hand quickly in the third. Georgetown rattled off seven of the first nine points and captured a 12-3 lead to hold all the momentum. From there, a pair of 3-0 runs all but closed things for Georgetown, who won the third, 25-13, with Kristjan Unt's kill.

THE TEAM
Georgetown hit .402 as a squad, with CU earning a .139 mark. The Tigers had 44 kills and 44 assists. Georgetown collected four service aces and 29 digs.  

THE PLAYERS
Kristjan Unt produced a team-high 14 kills with seven digs and a service ace.
Michal Bak had eight kills with four block assists and five digs.
Adam Szewinski also added eight kills to go with four block assists and a block solo

UP NEXT
The Tigers have a big RSC match tomorrow when they take on Campbellsville (19-1, 7-1 RSC).
