(RV) Tigers Close Out Royals in Four
LAKE WALES, Fla. – The (RV) Georgetown College men's volleyball team (8-6, 5-1 RSC) picked up a non-conference win over Warner University (4-9, 3-6 AAC) on Monday night in the Turner Athletic Center.
The Tigers defeated the Royals in four sets, 25-19, 22-25, 25-16, 25-23.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Warned built out an early 8-4 lead in the first set before the Tigers clawed all the way back to tie things at 15-15. An attack error on the next point gave Georgetown its first lead since the 2-1 mark. The Tigers won three of the next four points to take a 20-17 lead, and despite dropping the next point, took the opener, 25-19.
The lead changed sides early in the second set as it was the Royals who separated at the 5-5 mark. Winning six of the following eight points gave Warner an 11-7 lead, which was challenged late. Georgetown tied the set at 18-18 behind consecutive kills from Ben Milam and Kristjan Unt before three straight Royals' points all but conceded the set to the hosts. Warner won the second, 25-22.
Georgetown played with the lead for most of the third set, building out a 14-7 advantage off an attacking error, capping a 3-0 run. Michal Bak's kill made it a 20-13 game before the Tigers rattled off four of the next five points, setting up set point, 24-15. Back-to-back service errors by both squads marked the end of the set.
Neither side built more than a three-point lead all throughout the fourth set. Georgetown's first multi-point lead came from a Michal Bak kill at the 18-16 mark before the Royals rattled off five straight points to lead 21-18, their largest of the set. Georgetown countered with a 4-0 run of its own capped off by a service ace to lead 22-21. After dropping the next point, the Tigers pieced together three of the final four points to finish off the set, 25-23.
THE TEAM
Georgetown hit .446 as a squad, with WU earning a .321 mark. The Tigers had 55 kills and 55 assists. Georgetown collected three service aces and 37 digs.
THE PLAYERS
* Kristjan Unt produced a team-high 14 kills with three digs and a .542 attacking percentage.
* Michal Bak had 11 kills with two block solos.
* Adam Szewinski added 10 kills to go with three digs and two block solos.
