(RV) Tigers Sweep Both IUE and Midway

MIDWAY, Ky. – The (RV) Georgetown College men's volleyball team (7-6, 5-1 RSC) swept Indiana University East (5-4, 3-3 RSC) on Friday and then swept Midway University (2-14, 0-5 RSC) on Saturday.

The Tigers defeated the Red Wolves in three sets, 25-17, 25-11, 25-23.

The Tigers defeated the Eagles in three sets, 25-17, 25-18, 25-18.

HOW IT HAPPENED – INDIANA UNIVERSITY EAST
Georgetown stormed out to a 7-4 lead, forcing the Red Wolves to call a timeout. Out of the break, IUE tied things at 8-8 before the Tigers won seven of the next eight points to take a 15-9 lead. IUE burned its second timeout and could not right things afterwards as the Tigers went on to take the opener, 25-17. 

Georgetown won the second set, 25-11, behind an aggressive attacking game. Five different Tigers collected a kill in the set to set up an interesting third.

Despite the score line, Georgetown left little doubt in the third set. The Tigers led wire-to-wire, finishing things off with a kill from Adam Szewinski.

THE TEAM – INDIANA UNIVERSITY EAST
Georgetown hit .419 as a squad, with IUE earning a .160 mark. The Tigers had 41 kills and 38 assists. Georgetown collected two service aces and 30 digs.  

THE PLAYERS – INDIANA UNIVERSITY EAST
Kristjan Unt produced 10 kills with seven digs and one assist.

Adam Szewinski also had 10 kills with three block assists and a block solo.

Santino Zucchiatti put up eight kills to go with four digs and two block assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED – MIDWAY
The opener started off hotly contested as the Tigers built out a four-point lead but saw it dissipate. Midway never led in the first, though, as the Tigers clung on to win 25-17 off an attack error gave them their seventh point of the last 10 to end things.

Riding the momentum from the opener, the Tigers claimed the second set but had to work for it. The opening 16 points were split before the Eagles captured a small 12-10 lead. The Tigers' deficit was never greater than two, though, as the difference came with Georgetown trailing 16-15. A 9-0 Tiger run pushed Georgetown ahead for good, helping it win, 25-18.
 
The third set favored Georgetown essentially from the start. The Tigers built out a 9-4 lead and did not look back. The set turned into one of runs as the final 3-0 for Georgetown made it a 23-15 game before they closed it out 25-18.

THE TEAM – MIDWAY
Georgetown hit .299 as a squad, with MU earning a .012 mark. The Tigers had 37 kills and 34 assists. Georgetown collected six service aces and 33 digs.  

THE PLAYERS – MIDWAY
Jose Acuna Yepes produced a team-high seven kills with four digs and a .600 attacking percentage.
Ben Milam had six kills while adding one dig.
Kristjan Unt added six kills to go with three service aces and an assist.

UP NEXT
The Tigers head to Florida for three games next week, starting on Monday, March 9, when they take on Warner University (4-7).
