No. 4 Tigers Sweep No. 6 Spartans

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 4 Georgetown College men's volleyball team (2-2) picked up a top-10 win over No. 6 Missouri Baptist (5-3) in the Carl & Deloris Petty SRC on Friday night.

The Tigers defeated the Spartans in three sets, winning 25-22, 25-12, 25-22.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first 10 points of the match were marked mostly by attacking errors. Neither team gained more than a two-point lead as it was a back-and-forth opener. Georgetown opened up a three-point lead, 20-17, after a Kristjan Unt kill. Santino Zucchiatti's kill made things 23-19 and later set up set point before the Spartans took the next two points. After a Georgetown timeout, MBU's service error gave the Tigers the opener, 25-22.

The second set opened much like the first, as the attacking errors by GC opened the opportunity for MBU in the early goings. Leading 11-10, a 4-0 run by Georgetown turned the momentum before the Spartans scored again. Then, a 9-0 run by the Tigers ended things quickly. Holding a 24-11 set point, the Tigers finished off the set, 25-12, after another MBU attack error.

All four timeouts were used in the third as Georgetown had built out a 10-5 lead before the first was called. Missouri Baptist fought back in the middle stages of the set, outscoring the Tigers by two. After the hosts had pulled within two, Georgetown called its first timeout with a 15-12 lead. The break helped the Tigers re-establish a five-point lead and allowed the sweep of the Spartans to be in reach. Both sides alternated points before Georgetown's 23-18 lead made way for three straight Spartan points and a GC timeout. MBU made it a one-point game out of the break with a kill, but Kristjan Unt closed things for Georgetown with consecutive kills to win, 25-22.

Georgetown hit .311 as a squad, with MBU earning a .101 mark. The Tigers had 36 kills and 35 assists. Georgetown collected four service aces and 23 digs.
