Dobrowolski, Gunn lead sweep of Aquinas
39 assists from Kacper Dobrowolski and 20 kills from Ryan Gunn powered Georgetown to a sweep of Aquinas on Friday night at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
Offensive efficiency showed itself on both sides throughout the match. Both teams hit over .350 on the night. In the opening set, Aquinas hit an impressive .524 against Georgetown. The teams played even for most of the set. With the teams tied at 17, Georgetown went on a 5-1 run to take late command and force an Aquinas timeout. Dobrowolski would finish the set with one of his 2 aces on the night, giving GC a 25-20 win.
Set 2 was a Tiger rout. Georgetown tallied 16 kills and a .542 hitting number compared to .143 for the Saints. Outside of a 1-1 tie, the Tigers were never threatened en route to a 25-16 win and a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Tigers kept the offensive swing going in the 3rd, hitting .481 with 17 kills. Aquinas was equally up to the task, hitting .409 and refusing to go down without a fight. While Georgetown held a lead for most of the 3rd, it was never more than 4. Late in the set, Aquinas chipped away and eventually worked its way into a late lead and a set point at 24-23. The Tigers sent Ryan Gunn to the rescue. Gunn kept the set alive for the Tigers, then went to serve and benefited from back-to-back Saints errors, closing the set 26-24, and the match for Georgetown.
In addition to 20 kills, Ryan Gunn hit an astounding .607, committing just 3 errors on 28 total attacks. Liam Morrissey added 12 kills from the opposite side while hitting .524.
